Career Paths
BA Music graduate Jason Thornton is the music director of Bath Philharmonia. He has worked extensively with many of Britain’s orchestras and choirs including, City of London Sinfonia, London Mozart Players, Halle Orchestra, English Northern Philharmonia, London Philharmonic Choir and the Philharmonia Chorus. Abroad he has worked with the Cyprus Chamber Orchestra, Jykvaskyla Sinfonia (Finland) and the North West Symphony Orchestra (Seattle). Recent performances have included collaborations with Peter Donohoe, Natalie Clein, Joanna Macgregor and Sir Willard White.
BA Music graduate Alastair King was shortlisted for Masterprize 2001 and is a successul composer for film (titles include Chicken Run, Shrek 2, Curse of the Were-Rabbit).
BA Music graduate Roger Bolton is a successful composer for film and TV (titles include Bugs, Late Show, Prague Spring and Young Musician of the Year).
BA Music graduate Charlotte Pugh has recently been invited to join the SouthBank Gamelan Players, the UK's foremost gamelan group. Charlotte completed an MA in Performance Studies at London University's School of African and Oriental Studies, having won an AHRC scholarhship. She specialised in gamelan and previously spent a year in Indonesia on an Indonesian Government Scholarship studying gamelan and playing and performing contemporary music on recorder and flute.
Singers and BA Music graduates Anthony Gregory and Philip Borge have both won scholarships to study postgraduate performance courses at London's Royal College of Music. Anthony is currently on the prestigious Opera Course at the Benjamin Britten International Opera School.
BA Music graduates Sue Lord (violin) and Sarah Waycott (cello) have both recently completed postgraduate performance courses at Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.
BA Music graduate (and bassoonist) Kati Lawrence is currently completing an MMus in Performance Studies at Trinity Laban in London.
Veleka Algar is currently studying postgraduate composition at Birmingham Conservatoire.
BA Music graduate Philip Craig is a record producer and working session musician.
BA Music graduate Dan Reade is a successful composer and community musician.
Other active BA Music graduate composers include Duncan McLeod, David Manners, Paul Whitty, Sean Macalinden, Alan Stones, Alex Christaki and Kathy Hinde.
